TVR Griffith Restoration project
TVR Griffith full restoration project in Leather and Alcantara.
This week shows the start of a very interesting project. A Full restoration on a TVR Griffith. The customer came to us asking for every piece of interior to be replaced with brand new leather and alcantara. From the dash, to the door cards, center console, A pillars and everything else. Not only that, the TVR is getting brand new carpet, with leather binding and a new hood.
Week 1
Week 1 on the TVR showed the old carpet stripped from the shell. Parts of the carpet where missing, so we laid it out on the floor to get a good idea of what was needed.
Also during week 1 showed the dash recovered in dark blue Leather and Alcantara. And the A pillars and front trim covered in Leather. With the white stitching detail.

The rally show and the rain at Chatsworth House
The weekend at the rally show started as a good weekend and what was good for the rally teams taking part in the two days wasn’t so good for us, we had taken lots of leather items to show our work, the result of the weekend was a wash out to say the least, we had approx two hours of complete sunshine and the rest was torrential rain but when the sun did come out it was a rush to business, we were visited by lots of potentially new clients but not as many as expected, they say quality arrives in small numbers, below are some pictures and video clips of the event. The reason for standing at this show is to let you all know what we do and we are vehicle interior specialists, trimming and recovering interiors of all types of vehicles whether it be the boat, bike, car you name it if it is a vehicle and requires the inside restoring from original concourse to fully custom leather interiors, carpets and hoods, also if it is something that has never been achieved before then we will find a way
Precision leather repair
Leather repairs can be a cost effective way of performing restoration without replacing leather panels and the hassle of full retrims and matching leather and grains, the savings can be in the hundreds, the leather repair pictures below have been performed on a mercedes vito.
At CoverTec Solutions we use various water based colours and mix to match by eye, this takes a tremendous amount of experience and skill not only to match the colours but also the sheen level, grain pattern and texture, for instance the grey colour on the seat below would not just be black and white, but it may include the main three primary colours red, yellow and blue a bit of black and majority white, before the colour can be applied the repair area needs to be restored using various preparation techniques and products and after the area is complete with colour the sheen level is applied with most vehicle interiors being of a matt to satin sheen.
Empty bag of crisps from 1978 found during triumph stag retrim
During renovation of the two front seats of a triumph stag we at CoverTec solutions based in Wigston, Leicester discovered this empty packet of crisps dated for you to win tickets at the 1978 world cup, this brought back childhood memories of our parents watching the football on the television, and that’s where the interest stopped as we needed to complete the restoration on time.
The restoration of retrimming these seats consisted of firstly stripping and fitting new foam then onto retrimming the seats with as original spec vinyl as possible, as professional time served trimmers it is said that the triumph stag front seats are the hardest to fit because of the shape on the top shoulders, however we have had many years perfecting the skills to fit in a timely and cost effective way
the seats have been fully restored replacing the rubber diaphragms and rubber webbing to both cush and squab or in plain English base and back.
Jaguar Interior Leather Restorations
Jaguar interior leather restoration performed by fully cleaning and decontaminating the surface structure of the existing leather, without the correct preparation there is no point putting on the unique pigment finish, the finish is a water based acrylic pigment with binders and other ingredients.
Once colour is applied by hand and dry then a clear coat is applied to seal in the coloured finish which creates a very durable long lasting result.
The colour can be mixed to reduce and match any sheen level.
